GIS Specialist 3
The Telecommunications Division delivers telecommunication infrastructure solutions to utilities, local and state government agencies and the commercial wireless industry. Through a unique combination of experience, expert resources and innovative solutions, Black & Veatch supports the entire range of both legacy and emerging technologies used in today’s wireless and wireline networks, voice, video, Internet and data systems and utility automation.
Provides technical and analytical information management solutions through the use of software and databases for domestic or international projects. Functions in a mid level GIS Specialist capacity. Under general direction, has responsibility for the execution of moderately complex aspects of data administration, creation, analysis, reporting, mapping and/or application development. Provides technical and/or data administrative services in additional or more advanced subject areas and applications. May provide technical guidance in specific areas to other GIS Specialists.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs analytical, technical, and/or developmental tasks as assigned, such as: • Establishes and maintains required files to document data references, analytical methods, calculations and rationale used in reaching conclusions. •Assists with preparing / reviewing specific scopes of work for B&V projects and develops plans of study for activities in consultation with others. • Develops GIS-based tools, applications, databases, or similar solutions. • Assists with reviewing and leading delegated tasks for studies related to field of specialization and recommends schedules and budgets for such studies. •Assists in planning and/or implementing complex data management / development tasks. • Reviews technical reference files in field of specialization to keep files current. • Interacts with clients and project managers by attending meetings and providing summaries of project information. • Performs additional tasks specific to an area of expertise or technology. • May act in capacity of a “lead person” for select assignments. Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction. Directs GIS Specialists 1 and 2.
Bachelors' degree in Physical, Earth, or Life Science from an accredited university; or equivalent job-related experience. Typically a minimum of 3 years of experience performing related activities. Solid knowledge of GIS applications / development tools as applicable. Exposure to engineering-related concepts and functions desired. UK Qualification: Working towards industry recognised qualification or chartership e.g. RGS chartered Geographer.
