Primary Purpose:

  1. Provide geomorphological and Water Framework Directive assessment technical inputs to projects

  2. Contribute to broader environmental assessments / EIA work and input to project designs for river and coastal schemes.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide geomorphology input to feasibility and option appraisal studies

  2. Undertake geomorphology surveys, including walkovers, fluvial audits and site-specific surveys

  3. Production of Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments to support environmental assessments

  4. Provide input to designs for river restoration projects

  5. Provide input to bids and proposals

  6. Contribute to EIA and wider environmental reports

  7. Identify and undertake opportunities to present and raise awareness of geomorphology and river restoration work through networks and conferences

This post will report to and liaise with:

  1. BV Environmental Services team

  2. BV Chief Geomorphologist (based in Bradford on Avon)

  3. BV Environmental, engineering design and GIS teams (based in Chester, Redhill and / or other locations)

  4. BV project managers (based in Chester, Redhill and / or other locations)

  5. Client liaison, in particular with Environment Agency or Natural Resources Wales technical staff

Full time/Part time will be considered for this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & training: BSc Geography, Geology or similar Environmental Sciences.

Member of relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM or RGS/IBG) working towards Chartered status

Background & experience: 4-5 years post graduate experience in applied geomorphology

Used to working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Knowledge base: Geomorphology, hydrology, flood and coastal erosion risk management, Water Framework Directive, river restoration

Skills: Qualitative and quantitative interpretation of geomorphological issues; desk studies; preparation of clear figures and maps, report writing, GIS.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

Masters / other postgraduate qualification in relevant subject such as catchment management

Chartered Member of relevant professional institution (e.g. C.WEM, CEnv, CSci, CGeog)

Previous experience in environmental / engineering consultancy

Experience working for / with the Environment Agency and water companies

Experience across range of rivers, estuarine and coastal environments

Natural flood management, EIA, environmental modelling, water quality, catchment management, fish pass/bypass channel design

Innovative data collection methods (e.g. mobile GIS), sediment transport calculations
