Primary Purpose:

Functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role. With minimal supervision, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods. Expands knowledge and skill set in area of discipline. May start to expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Function as a technical specialist or in a lead role. With minimal supervision, apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods in the electrical power transmission/distribution industry. Prepare a variety of complex electrical engineering deliverables, including: Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection; Prepare one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations and protection & control schematics for power substation equipment; Prepare auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations; Design wiring diagrams for protective relaying panels; Perform complex engineering calculations/studies related to substation projects such as: lightning protection, conduit fill, AC/DC station service loading, battery sizing, surge arrester sizing and voltage drop and bus calculations; Create RTU control, status and analog point lists; Prepare equipment arrangement, grounding, foundation, conduit plans and raceway/cable schedules for high voltage substations; Prepare reports, specifications and procurement documents; Review shop drawings, vendor quotes and perform bid evaluations; Prepare design summary documents, estimate man-hour, schedule and project budget; Review monthly project schedules and cost detail reports; Review lower level engineering work or assignments; Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of work; Plans and conducts quality checks on substation P&C, physical design and calculations; Manage and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements; Lead smaller production teams with 2-3 direct reports; and serving as the responsible charge for a project; Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus three years of related experience in the electrical power transmission/distribution industry, or in the alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus five years of related experience in the electrical power transmission/distribution industry. Experience must include: preparing one line diagrams, physical, schematic and wiring diagrams; electrical equipment sizing (high and low voltage); electrical equipment procurement, development, negotiation and award for substation electrical equipment. Must have experience with lightning protection, cable and conduit sizing, bus and voltage drop calculation and battery sizing; Must have experience using IEEE and IEC standards for major electrical equipment and design guides, including OSHA, UL, NEC, and NFPA. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English. Must have experience supervising small groups. Must have PE license.
